A couple of days ago I had a real sense of heading towards autumn - a slight chill in the morning air was all it was, but it struck me that I usually notice this in September as the swallows gather together on the telephone wires before going south for the winter. My awareness of how the seasons flow into one another suddenly heightened and now I find myself more attuned to those subtle changes.

Yes Carol ๐Ÿ™ I love noticing the gentle changes that come on so slowly ... That's another thing I love ... It's such a gradual process from season to season and I love noticing the first signs ๐Ÿ’ž

I learned about the wheel of the year, gosh, sometime between 2016 and 2019. Since then, I have fallen in love with slow, purposeful living. It is a colder end of summer this year for us in western Canada. The reality that summer is now behind us hit last week with overcast, rainy days. I find the changing seasons to hold so much magic for those who slow down enough to look. I am always curious by what handcrafts or natural foods would have been made or harvested by my ancestors. Being in a first world nation, everything is available at my fingertips when, really, this is rather unnatural and a recent evolution. I am looking forward to Mabon, a witch's thanksgiving, when I will guide a yoga class for my coworkers focused on balance. Maybe I'll bring in a pumpkin pie.

Amanda, your Yoga session sounds wonderful - as does the Pumpkin Pie!

It really is a wonderful way to live, as soon as I read about Slow Living I was hooked and from there, I am incorporating more gentle and seasonal living and I love it. I have also started to learn more about Lunar living, which I find so fascinating.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts Amanda, I love hearing everyoneโ€™s take on it.

I will definitely read Slow Seasons, it sounds great. I really enjoyed The Wild Remedy: How Nature Mends Us - A Diary by Emma Mitchell. That book takes you through the seasons in East Anglia.

I loved this, Emily! I love the new energy that each season brings and I'm really trying to appreciate each season for what it is as I have the tendency to always wish I'm in a different season ๐Ÿ˜… I'm thoroughly enjoying it getting cooler now as we head towards Autumn - I cannot wait for the spooky season! ๐ŸŽƒ

Thank you for your post, you have inspired me to look ahead to my favourite season of autumn, and to write down my ponderings. I'm already noticing the subtle air change on the morning dog walk. I also love the moon cycles and this year have been using the Moonology Diary by Yasmin Boland. Have a lovely week.

Thatโ€™s so lovely Tracey! Thank you so much. Autumn is my favourite too and I cannot wait to create my own Autumn Bucket List! I have also used a Moon Journal (Moon Phase Studios) for the first time this year, and I really love it. I recently got Kirsty Gallagherโ€™s Lunar Living which I am excited to start!

I love this:

โ€œ Learning to live in sync with the seasons through food, nature, gardening, moon cycles, seasonal rituals, and more can bring with it a multitude of benefits. I believe aligning with the seasons and embracing nature is one of the most effective ways to find balance and calm, and it compliments Slow and Gentle Living beautifully. The more we learn to connect with the seasons, the more connected and rooted we are to the world around us and the present moment. You get to decide ultimately what each season means to you, and what space you will hold in each season.โ€

A warm post as always :)

As I learned more about the hormonal/menstrual cycle, I came across this idea of splitting one cycle into multiple "seasons", such that the premenstrual is the autumn, the menstrual is the winter (we need to rest more and look inwards), and then the spring is the days leading up to the ovulation, which feels like summer as we're in the peak of our energy. I relate more to this concept of aligning our bodies with nature.

Lovely book recommendation, I'd check out the Celtic way first, as I can't wait to create more cosy atmosphere and comfort meals at home.

Have a great week ahead, Emily!

Thank you Sekar ๐Ÿ™that's such an interesting take on the menstrual cycle and it makes sooo much sense. I keep wanting to read a book called Period Power by Maisie Hill to bettrr understamd my cycle and my own ebb and flow of energy through my cycle. Have a great week too ๐Ÿ˜Š xxx
