Oh I am glad you enjoyed it too - I clearly didn't read the blurb very well as the whole murder mystery element was a surprise to me but I loved it. I really liked all the characters too. Enjoy the rest off your summer reads!
What a lovely idea! I am an avid reader so will follow your recommendations with interest. I’m currently in the throes of reading everything I can on writing and creativity which I am finding inspiring and challenging all at once!
Ooo that's interesting 🤔 what have you been reading ? I finished The Artist's Way Julia Cameron and I have Big Magic Elizabeth Gilbert ✨ on my book shelf and I picked up a copy of Martha Beck Finding Your Own North Star which looks pretty amazing !
I too recently reread Big Magic and gave The Artists Way to reread. I’m currently reading Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. Not so inspiring I find but good technically if, so far, mainly focussed on fiction writing. I’ll have a look out for Martha Beck.
I'm about to finish some of non-fiction books and onto my first physical fiction book this year :) (used to read fiction only on Kindle app, on my old iPad).
Also, it happens to be a James Patterson's as well.
This was a lovely read. I thought I did more mood reading than seasonal but when I think about it my moods are based on the season. There are a few books I re read and when I have looked back at when I read them, it is always the same season each year. I definitely read a lot of Christmas romance in winter and enjoy the cosiness and warmth of these. In Summer I like to feel relaxed and don't read books that make me feel too on edge, those books are for Autumn 😃
Hi Claire 👋 yes, I feel the same way. And I definitely choose easier, lighter reads for the summer too! Must feel braver come the autumn !!!! It's a really interesting thing to ponder, but I really think seasonal (and mood!) reading adds so much !
I do a mixture of seasonal and mood reading. There will always be a Christmas romance or 2 in December and some sort of light “beach read” or “chick lit” in July/August. Between those there will be a mix of crime, literary reads, classics and lots of Substack influenced reads all depending on what I feel like reading.
Yes, I think I probably do more mood reading than I thought! I am firmly in summer reading mode right now, which I am really enjoying. I'm traveling all over through the pages of my books - current visiting Prince Edward Island in This Summer Will Be Different!
I am definitely more of a “mood” reader than a seasonal reader. I realized this when I put all these books on hold at my local library and sometimes they takes ages to come in. I’m in the virtual queue for so long, that by the time the books are actually in my hands, I find my interest has now waned and I am no longer in the mood to read that book 😂 Why am I like this, ha, ha 😂 But I do read it eventually, I just have to remember this about myself 🙃📚
I know exactly what you mean! I am a sucker for marketing too ... If you put enough adverts Infront of my face, 9 times out of 10 I'm buying that book ! Impressionable 🤣📚 I think seasonal and mood reading do go hand in hand ... Definitely something I'm going to ponder on actually 🙏
I'm so glad you enjoyed it Catherine, I love writing these letters dedicated to books and reading! I hope you enjoy seasonal reading... let me know how you get on! What are you currently reading? Does it fit your current season!?
I’m currently reading Castle of Water by Dane Huckelbridge. It wasn’t an intentional seasonal read, but it happens to fit perfectly into this season. 💛
I love reading seasonally! It really helps me immerse myself in the worlds 🤍
I recently finished the Dubrovnik Book Club and enjoyed it! It was my usual choice and it took me a while to get into, but the story was gripping.

Yes, it was a little different to how I imagined too, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Thank you! You too 🥰

What a lovely and thoughtful list, Emily.

Thank you Sekar! I love writing these posts.
Which James Patterson have you got? I definitely want to read more of his!
Oh Amazon Prime Day is going to tempt me to finally take the plunge and get a kindle I think! Eek!
Title is: Things I Wish I Told My Mother
(I added that in my usual newsletter highlight after the main post)
Makes you wanna go to Norway for all the food description.
Ah keep your purse closed around Amazon Prime Day :D
Thank you ! I'll check it out !!!!! 📚🙏❤️

I absolutely love the idea of seasonal reading!! Thank you for this deep dive! Excited to explore your recommendations 💖💖💖

Lovely! I realised I was instinctively choosing seasonal reads before I was more intentional with my choices 🙏
