Hi Emily, I couldn't work out how to embed this post into my October round-up post as the code just looked like code when when I previewed it not like how my post looks on your article. I have however cross posted it to my subscribers (I only have 7). I love the slow reading piece. I hope you enjoy The Graveyard Book. Also if you like Shirley Jackson read We Have Always Lived In The Castle. It's quite a short story but really good.
I think you would just do like a link 🖇️ there's a symbol at the top when you are editing a post. Substack is a learning curve but we are getting there!
I loved The Graveyard Book... I'm really keen to read more Gaiman in the next year. Thank you as always for you recommendations 🙏 I love to hear them !
Gaiman is good because a lot of his books are anthologies of short stories which are easy to dip in and out of. I’m a massive fan of short stories as you can probably tell from my reviews.
I have all three books of Stephen Fry,'s waiting on my shelf. I asked for them as birthday present because I loved how he tells about greek mythology! I can't wait to read them too!
I hope you will soon read Dracula because it is one of my favourite, I read it during the day because it has too many spooky vibes for me to read it at evening 😅
I am also glad you'll read the hobbit soon, I loved that one too!
I am currently reading some Agatha Christie's books and You are here by David Nicholls. I have yet to finish Fairy Tale by Stephen King because I was not that involved even I like it, I will surely finish it and tell you how I feel about it 🙃 have a lovely Sunday! 📚🍁🍄🍂
Hi Lara, oh what a wonderful gift! I got my copy from the library so I have added Mythos to my Christmas list because I know I'll want to read it again! I will get round to the others in the trilogy too!
I'll let you know when I get to Dracula ... I want to read Dracul first and I appear to be running out of autumn fast 🤣
I think Fairytale does get a little slow in the middle but if you can keep preserving the ending is worth it !
Oh I forgot to mention that I try not to check others reading goal, I have it on my Goodreads but I use it just to keep track of what I read and listen. I find it overwhelming and I want to focus also on the books I already have, because my unread books are going out of control! This year I started a reading journal where I note all my readings,.it is more magical to go through the pages and see what I read and how I decorated it every month! 📚
I love this Lara 💕 I think that's a great way of organising your reading and I'm such a big fan of a reading journal ... That was definitely a game changer for me too. Is yours a written one or on your computer then? 📚
It is a written one! I bought some stickers and washi tapes some time ago and I decorate one page for month with the colors and stickers I believe is in line with the season. With wooden stamps I write the name of the month at that top and some flowers to rate the books. I write titles and author by hand 😊
I loved that Woody Allen quote. I started the slow readalong of War and Peace on Substack this year - a chapter a day - and I did really well until I fell off the wagon around 4 months in.
And I have a copy of Mythos that I took on not one but two Greek holidays 🤣 and never opened. Maybe next year will be the year.
I think Simon said he would do the readalong again next year so I will pick it up again. It was actually lovely to follow along with everyone but the downside is I guess that if you fall behind it's really daunting to jump back in again. But I know I would never have the motivation to read it all by myself.
Love this! When on holiday recently, my husband and I realised that I'm a 'slow' reader while he speeds through. In part this is because I create voices for the characters and can 'hear' them in my head when I'm reading. It was an alien concept to him when I explained. It can be frustrating to be a slow reader at times but it also helps me identify when I truly enjoy a book, because suddenly my inner speed reader makes an appearance!
Emily that's a beautiful way to read, and while I totally get the frustration sometimes (we've all been there!), I just think books are a gift and a totally personal experience, so it's absolutely right that you enjoy it however, and whatever speed you wish 📚💕🙏
I also just finished the Shining and was totally wowed by the writing! I especially loved how Danny’s childish perceptions came through (thinking the hotel rooms were sweets, etc.) so good!

I haven’t read The Shining but I’ve seen the film version with Jack Nicholson several times. He was brilliant in it!
The book is slightly different as is the ending 👀 I highly recommend it , brilliant storytelling 📚

I wil surely finish Fairytale because I like it even if it is a bit slow at the moment! Can't wait to know about Dracula when you read it.
Have a great week 🌈🍂🍄📚

Oh my goodness 💕 sounds absolutely amazing!

It's a great quote isn't it ?! 😂 I saw the read along on here, but it still seemed a little intimidating! Do you think you will pick it up again?
You'll enjoy Mythos! 🏛️ The way it's written and formated is in little chunks, so it would work as a 'here and there' read (if you see what I mean !)

Reading slowly is the best. I find that with speed reading you miss so much detail.
