This was such a helpful read! There is something about a flame and the unpredictability of it that can be so soothing. It really empties the mind and yet fills the soul 🙏🏻
As usual, a wonderful way to start a Sunday! I primarily use candles for purposes of ritual, but will occasionally light one for ambiance :-) Now incense? That is my go-to when writing - I frequently have a stick burning when tapping away at the keyboard... <3
I love incense too! I tend to use it more throughout the colder months. I love the presence of incense, and the beautiful trails of smoke gently moving through the room. I agree, it is a wonderful writing companion! I got an essential oil diffuser which I enjoy more in the summer. But yes, all the smells - all the ambiance.
Thank you for this beautiful tribute to candles! They are such a huge part of my life and practice, but I don't take enough time to specifically honor them. Thank you for reminding me to do so. ♥️
You are so welcome! It makes me so happy that this has rekindled that desire in you. I just love the presence of candles - their quiet power, and influence over me and my surroundings. Writing this, was honestly like reminding myself too.
I loved using candles a few years ago for the soft lights and when I was reading tarot, but I somehow stopped using them now. The last candle company you mentioned sounds really nice though, so I might get myself one again🤔😂
At one of the Christmas markets near my town there was a small stand where people could draw candles yourself and get them carved! I remember making one when I was little, it was a lot of fun!🕯💕
Nika, I also had to stop using so many of the real candles around my house because of pets and children. But I found I could get some of the same cozy ambiance with the battery light up pillars that have the flickering effect 🥰
What a beautiful letter posted here Emily. I love all the quotes and facts you gave us from different sources on what candles can be used for as well as some spirituality uplifting ones about the light of the candle as the connection to the Light of the world. Candle light always fills me with hope. It brings the essence of something sacred when I light one with a specific intention or prayer. I actually made a whole scene around the lighting of a candle in my fiction book I'm still writing right now. 🥰 it's so nice to hear we share many things in common. Happy day Emily. 😇 keep shining 🕯️
Oh wow, I love that - I will eagerly await reading the scene! I just love candles, they are so understated and so magical. I didn't even plan on writing this piece, but as I was brainstorming I just kept coming back to the phrase 'by candlelight' and it grew from there! I loved hearing your thoughts on it, so thank you so much for sharing. It has been really lovely connecting with you
Ahh this was such a comfy, cozy read 😊 It made me turn my head to the right and smile at the single tealight burning in my living room.
I light it every morning even before coffee and say good morning to the urn it sits in front of. I also relight it in the evening when it's time for yoga. Something about a calm flame changes the whole mood of my home.
Thank you. I love that - just one tiny tea light and we are gifted with all that energy - all that calm and comfort. I think it is magic, and I love considering what an impact something as simple as lighting a candle has on our overall wellbeing and our physical space at home!
Same! One of my intentions for 2024 is to meditate more, I have done in the past, but it is a tough practice to keep up with regularly, so that is my ambition! I hope you can get there too!
I love candles so much they are part of the essential items in our home but I wish I could use them with less waste (the jars) 🫙. I recycle them but do others have tips or recommendations on what to use instead? Should I just use the ones that do not come in jars?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I agree - when buying candles, there can be some waste.
I wash and re use all the jars from the candles I buy, either for household items or to remake candles (also great for gifts!). The Self Care Candle Co I mentioned, sell re-fills for their glass jars which I think is fantastic! You could make pillar candles or candle sticks without the need for a jar too.
I learned how to make candles a few years back. I haven't taken the time to make some more. But I always have a candle around ready to burn. It's all the more enjoyable when I know I personally picked out the scents to add to it.
It is! And surprisingly easy (for basic candle making!) once you have all the equipment. It is so satisfying too. Candles can be very expensive so it is also nice to save a little money, I also love reusing pretty jars for candles.

Thank you so much. I am so pleased. 🙏 Yes, that is exactly how I feel ! I just find the company of a candle so comforting.
Wonderfully said Jess 😇

That's such a lovely idea !!! I love finding little hidden treasures at markets like that 🙏
The Self Care Candle Co are wonderful and the candles are such high quality, the scents are beautiful.
I hope this may have rekindled your love of candles !!! 💞
I'm definitely tempted to pull out my tea lights again!

That's a great idea! I still have my fairy lights up from Christmas and I don't think I'll take them down this year.^^

Loved this read, thank you for writing it. Candles add so much beauty to any moment.
Thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I really liked writing it and it made me appreciate candles even more 🙏
I've never managed to form a robust meditation practice, but when I do, I tend to use a candle.

Do you have recommendations for those with no jars but have some light scent too?
I can't think of anything specific... as I would tend to make pillar candles rather than buy them! Maybe give candle making a go!?
Oooo! Scary idea but I will explore it further.
