Please do say hello, and share what you are currently reading in the comments ... I'd love to know...

I am currently reading Anne of Green Gables for the first time, and I have fallen head over heels in love with Anne and her story. I could not put the book down yesterday. I am overjoyed that there are more in the series. It is the perfect Spring read!

I love seasonal reading! Always read a bunch of christmas novels each december! At least one Jenny Colgan each year as she tends to write a new christmas novel every year.

Right now I’m reading a Armand Gamache novel by Louise Penny. Here in Sweden we don’t really get spring for another month or so, so the dark Canadian forests still fits.

I read my first ever Jenny Colgan last Christmas, The Christmas Bookshop - I loved it and I am looking forward to reading the sequel this year (Midnight at the Christmas Bookshop).

I am really enjoying seasonal reading too. Yesterday I planned out a few books and placed them in a planner according to season - which felt good. Some books obviously sit within a particular season, but I also enjoyed going on 'feel' too!

I read my first Armand Gamache this fall and it was perfect timing! I really enjoyed it so I lent it to my mom and plan to carry on with the series. I'm in Canada so it's fun to read a Canadian mystery!

I try to read non-fiction in the morning. It’s usually work related for an assignment. And fiction is my pre-bed escape. Currently reading The Namesake (it came our during a fiction-reading drought). And I just re-read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe with my son. I love ré-reading my childhood faves with him.

I love the way you divide your reading. I watched The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for the first time recently! Maybe I should add the books to my TBR list! Thank you for the inspiration!

Kelly, the Narnia series was my favourite as a kid! It still is. When my kids were little, I re-read all seven books to them (I even had my childhood box set). My youngest son cried when we finished the last book. He thought he would never enjoy a book again.

I have got to read them this year ! 📚

Getting a library card is what got me back into reading again! I also tend to find myself seasonally reading without realizing it - I love witchy/magical books in the fall, and romance in spring and summer. For some odd reason winter makes me want to continue my Malazan journey, which I'm currently reading and have been working through for about three years... One day I'll finish.

I'm also trying to keep a habit of having a bedtime book, which stays in the bedroom, and a different book downstairs, so I'm not just grabbing my phone when I'm lounging around. It's not foolproof (I'm on the couch on the phone right now lol) but I think it's helped!

I think visiting my local library helped me so much too, it is such an inspiring place.

I like your idea of having a book just for bedtime. I read one book at a time at the moment, but I'd like to read more than one at times, so maybe having a bedtime book is a nice way of doing that. I actually have a collection of bedtime short stories - I've been meaning to read for ages! Perhaps I will start there.

The SummerBook by Tove Jansen is just beautiful, simple yet deep. I go back to it again and again. And of course I loved Little Women too! I always have a couple of books on the go and a huge pile waiting and love to read whenever and wherever I can!

I wish I could read more than one book at a time, (maybe I will build up to this!) but so far, I just focus on one. I looked up The Summer Book - it looks lovely. Thank you for sharing that!

I am so glad you enjoyed it. I've adored getting back into reading, and I knew the things that had helped me make more time for it, and so I really wanted to share. I also suspected there were lots of book lovers here, so I wanted to bring us all together too!

Lots of good ideas building a reading habit, and libraries are THE BEST!! Thanks, Emily.

I promise to take a break from reading as and when the need arises. Well over four decades of solid reading and the enjoyment hasn't waned.

Thank you. I am just so enjoying visiting the library... I just need to make sure I go with a rough plan, or else I can walk out with way too many books!

My solution is to go in with a plan and still come out with far too many books... 😆

This is my first time hitting play on your voice-over and I was pleasantly surprised. Your accent and voice are beautiful! You could easily narrate for a living 😊 I could listen all day.

Thank you for saying that! You are very generous!!! I've never done any audio before, but I jumped in without too much thought a couple of posts ago - I just record them in one take so there is the odd stutter and mistake here and there. I hope to improve! I just love listening to others and I liked making my writing more inclusive and personal.

Well you do sound lovely and you've inspired me to listen to more audio versions when it's available. 😊

Love Anne of Green Gables—what a classic! I recently read The Women by Kristin Hannah and a charming book Mrs. Quinn’s Rise to Fame. Reading is one of my favorite things to do and is such a great way to slow down and be present.

I love how much reading compliments Slow Living too. Thank you for sharing both those books, I will look them both up!

I thoroughly endorse this message.

The book I'm bigging up at the moment that I recently read is Writer by JM Burgoyne, a dark, Southern Gothic frontier tale about a man trying to put a lost love behind him.

I thought you may :) I've not heard of The Writer... sounds intriguing, I will add it to my list !

Wonderful post Emily. Reading with a cup of tea is me. I have several books on the go. Loving my slow read of War & Peace with Simon and the group here on Substack. Historical fiction is my go to generally. I just finished A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams and it was really very good.

Thank you so much. I 've seen so many people doing the read along of War and Peace - I hope you are getting along with it ok! I would like to read more historical fiction, I must admit I haven't read any recently! Thank you for the inspiration.
