My name is Alicia. I saw one of your comments on a Scottish Slow Stories post, so I decided to check out your Substack.
I can definitely relate to having experienced anxiety throughout my life. I work in healthcare, and while I enjoy what I do (especially helping others), I balance it with a much slower, quieter personal life. I see my four "stepkids" whenever I get the chance, but it's mostly just me and Brigit and Gracie, my two cats.
Most weekends, I'm either home or out and about in nature (doing a lot of photography). I swear I do better with animals most of the time. Slow, gentle living is definitely a balm for my mind, body, and spirit.
Hi Alicia 👋 lovely to meet you. I totally agree with the balance between your job and personal life ... I'm sure your job can be very tough at times and I'm glad you have found your way to manage that with more peace in your personal life.
I work in a very extroverted space, which I struggle with as an introvert... so it's so important to balance it out when I'm home.
This is a great intro to what your publication offers, Emily.
I feel like I incorporate just the right amount of slow into my life. Morning coffee and reading before anything complicated. And extra long dog walks in nature - I'm fortunate to live just steps from the city limits. Plenty of nature here.
I have a question for you: How do you incorporate your slow lifestyle into your job? I have no idea what you do for a living but I'm interested in how slow living people balance it with their work.
Thank you so much. How lovely to live somewhere with plenty of nature 🙏 I work part time as a Box Office Manager in Theatre 🎭 I'm very lucky to be able to work part time and honestly that has enabled me to really embrace slow living in a bigger way in my life (I see it as a guiding philosophy). I also think it's important to show how you can take smaller elements of Slow Living into your life and it still make a huge difference... So that's what I hope to show ... Slow living for everyone.
I'm learning to "unbusy" and embrace slowing down. This weekend, I enjoyed making ricotta one day, a cheesecake the next, and sharing it with loved ones today.
Thank you for the encouragement - it's so easy to get caught up in "busy".
I am excited to read more of your writing - slow living can be hard sometimes with our endless to-do lists and all of the planned activities, chores, etc... We're always in a hurry. Something that fell off my morning routine (due to my wellness side hustle work) was meditating, manifesting and journaling. Guess what? The result: my mind was so cluttered, my mental health sank - I NEED that slow living ritual in my life in order to continue working on my passions. I want to make my wellness business my full time job ultimately, but going into burnout won't get me there. I've taken the last few weeks off to get back to my slow living rituals so that my mind is more clear and my soul is more free.
Hi Melissa, I am so happy you found yourself here - I hope that this inspired you because I couldn’t agree more with you. It was such a moment when I realised it was in slowing down and moving more gently that I could unlock this whole other level of motivation and productivity. It is amazing. Slow Living has changed my life and I know it can do the same for you. You are so welcome to explore more here too. Lovely to have you.
This is great! I hadn't heard of slow living until I started writing on Substack, and this is the first post I've come across that really explains what it is and talks about the 4 principles. I learned a lot! 😊
That is so lovely to hear, thank you! I hoped it would be a nice overview for people new to Slow Living and a bit of a calling card for those who are trying to slow down.
I love this philosophy to living life Emily and I’m glad to find you sharing these tips. I feel I have found a little bit of this a couple of years back when I decided to stop looking at the clock so much throughout the day. It’s like you said, it seems every part of our day can fall into a schedule, that it’s nice when we can just forget about the time for a while and just simply be. 😌
Thank you so much. Embracing a simple, beautiful life 💕 when I'm not at work I try not to pay too much attention to the time and just feel the day out!
I love this post! Slow living has been something I have tried to practice more, as well. I'm trying to return to a more natural life, away from the hustle bustle of the world, capitalism, consumerism, etc. I want to learn do more things myself like growing foods, sewing, other handcrafts, etc. My life has become so much more peaceful, especially in terms of anxiety. Once you start doing lessz you realise what's actually important.
Hi Alex, thank you for sharing and yessss this is the magic of slow living ! It really does impact your life in such a positive way. I'm really glad you enjoyed this 💕 thank you!
Thank you so much for the delightful and captivating recording. You have a lovely and calming speaking voice. I added a Gratitude Journal to my morning routine. I have an overwhelming job of decluttering and simplifying to do. But I am going to do it slowly.
Awww thank you! I messed up the recording a few times but I wanted to record organically from start to finish 🙏 I'll get better ! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I hope you get through your jobs ... I had a morning like that .. I broke it down into little tasks and I flew through them ! Good luck 🤍
Beautiful thank you 🙏🏼
I'm so glad you enjoyed ✨

Isn’t that so wonderful - slow down to find more productivity and motivation - I hope MANY more people find you and learn this magic!
Me too ✨🤗
Love your writing
