Great piece. Very timely as well - I wonder if an algorithm brought me here! I’ve overburdened myself with exciting new projects and today felt overwhelmed. I realise I’m not giving myself enough space to decompress. I’m GO GO GO
Today I closed my second smaller publication to focus on my main, cos I constantly felt guilty about not posting on Substack. It’s a relief the ‘guilt’ has gone.
A walk in nature for an hour this morning helped. Thanks for writing this
Whatever brought this piece to you, I am so happy because I wrote this with the hope and wish it would help people. So I am so glad you are here! I think we often forget our beautiful 'humanness', maybe because we are surrounded by computers and technology all the time - I am not sure? But, we certainly can't do it all, and be 'on' all the time, I'm happy you have found a way to slow down and refocus. I am sure that relief will build into steady ground, from which you will be able to achieve all you need to without spreading yourself too thin.
Thank you so much! I am so glad it resonated with you! I hope it does help guide through the upcoming season! I love Christmas, but I can get overwhelmed with so much to do, and lots more social activities than I am used to. I am hoping my slow living philosophy will help manage this better this year!
Thank you for sharing this, now I know that there's a word for mundane activities I do a few times daily. Washing dishes, organising my kitchen and bedroom . . . pottering it is
Boundaries are my most important self-care. I can only handle so much in-person contact in a day and I'm very quick to exercise my right to exit when it's time. Sometimes I lie about having to be somewhere else if I have to 😁
I'm definitely bookmarking this for future reference, so many good points and suggestions here. As you say, it's easy to overlook the basics - rest, hydration, gentle exercise but they really do underpin everything else and for me at least, need constant reminders. One of my favourite ways to potter is to go through my yarn stash (not all of it) or just sort through a few old project bags. Tidying things away or rediscovering lost, half-knitted socks is a great way to calm and restore a slightly frazzled brain
Wonderful 💕 pottering is such a underrated self-care practice. I love the gentle movement, working with your mind, as your body starts to relax.
Please do bookmark ! My hope when writing this piece was that it may provide practical guidance for every day, but also some comfort for those going through a difficult time.

Such a comforting read that's extra nourishing as cold winter nights creep in and the busyness of Christmas arrives! Thank you lovely x

I totally relate ... Learning what my boundaries are, placing and enforcing them with more certainty has been a game changer for me ! 🙏
